A personal project, based on the brief and templates provided by Penguin Random House for their cover design competition.

I created a wrap around cover illustration and custom lettering.

For this illustration I explored a few different ideas before landing on the rooftop idea, which started with a rough sketch, after which I modelled the basic shapes in 3D to get the layout. I set up two cameras to render off the scene, one each for the front and back so they both got a good ‘face on’ direction, with the overlap falling across the spine where it's least noticeable. I put the resulting renders into Procreate to use as a base for the illustration, and added all the hand drawn details including the brickwork, hidden figure, chimney smoke etc.

The lettering was sketched out on paper, then scanned in and re-worked in vector format for the final shape and details.
